I feel that there are lot of learning points and thus sharing with you all here
1. Coaching is a process by which one individual (coach) helps another improve his/her (learner) performance through learning by facilitation
2. Why coach?
because the eye cannot sees itself.
(this basically means you cannot see what you did wrong or correctly and hence need someone to see it for you and tell you so that you can correct or improve it)
3. True learning happens when the learner wants to change himself/herself.
4. Coaching Vs Mentoring
Coaching: partnership, does not have to be an expert in this area, faciliatation
Mentoring: superior, expert in this area, teaching modelling showing
5. Core beliefs of a Good Coach
- People want to learn and grow
- Every learner has the potential for better performance
- Good questions are more powerful than strong commands
- Every problem is an opportunity for learning
- Challenging goals and encouragement can bring out the best from people
6. A Good Learner
- Is willing
- Finds it joyful to learn
- Does not blame others for poor performance
- Always learns from others
- Always reflects on himself
- Is not defensive
- Is honest with himself
I hope everyone can read this and reflect upon the points mentioned.
as a coach, does he have these few core beliefs?
as a learner, are you a good one?
Maybe it's time to do something.
